Steps to Create an Access form in Existing Database

In this project, we were called in to solve a complex issue on a form. The client needed to read a bar code scan into the database, parse the scan into multiple fields, and save into the database. We also built code which produces xml code to send to a server which prints to a zebra printer for bar code printing.

The client already had a form that mostly worked. They did not need a full rebuild — they needed the scan-to-save path fixed and labels printing reliably from the same screen their warehouse staff already knew. That kind of targeted fix is often an 8-hour job instead of a multi-week project.

Once the scan parsed correctly into part number, quantity, and lot fields, the save happened in one step instead of manual entry after each beep. The Zebra piece sent XML to their print server so labels matched what landed in the database. Fewer typos, fewer relabels, less time at the receiving dock.
